Troops Foil Mass Abduction, Rescue Over 150 Civilians
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have foiled a planned mass abduction by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, rescuing over 150 civilians during a coordinated military response in Borno State.
The incident occurred at about 2:50 p.m. on March 30, 2026, when troops deployed at Dutse Kura in Sector 2 came under attack while escorting civilians along the Buratai–Kamuya axis.
According to military authorities, surveillance assets detected insurgents attempting to abduct a large number of civilians including women and children using about 17 vehicles.

In a swift response, the Quick Response Force reinforced the troops, repelled the attackers, and launched a pursuit towards the Mangari area, forcing the terrorists to abandon both the victims and their vehicles.
All rescued civilians were safely evacuated to Buratai for onward reunification with their families.
However, during the pursuit operation, troops encountered an improvised explosive device along the Bula Zarma–Mangari axis, leaving five personnel severely injured. The wounded soldiers were immediately evacuated for specialist medical treatment.
The military said the operation underscores its resolve to deny terrorists freedom of action and protect vulnerable populations, particularly as the Easter period approaches.
It added that sustained vigilance and rapid response capabilities remain critical in ongoing efforts to stabilise the North-East and maintain pressure on insurgent groups.
