Plateau Attack a ‘Criminal Act,’ Not Security Failure — FG
The Federal Government has described the recent violence in Plateau State as a criminal act within a conflict-prone community, rather than a reflection of a breakdown in Nigeria’s national security architecture.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this clarification while addressing journalists in Abuja today on the security situation in the state.
According to him, while the attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North, is deeply regrettable, it must be understood within the context of longstanding communal tensions and localized security challenges in parts of Plateau.

He emphasized that security agencies responded promptly, deploying troops who quickly contained the situation, secured key routes, and initiated operations to apprehend those responsible.
The minister further highlighted ongoing coordinated efforts by the Federal Government, including intelligence-led missions, reinforced troop deployments, and joint military-police patrols across vulnerable communities.
He stressed that these measures are part of a broader strategy to proactively neutralize threats and maintain stability in the North-Central region.
Reassuring Nigerians, the Federal Government maintained that the situation in Plateau State is under control and being actively managed.
It reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice for victims and preventing further escalation, while calling on citizens to avoid spreading unverified information capable of heightening tensions.
