Plateau Killings: Ex-Deputy Speaker Wase Condemns Fresh Attacks, Calls for Restraint
A former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, has strongly condemned the recent wave of violence in Plateau State, describing the killings as senseless and a threat to the fragile peace in the state.
In a statement Wase expressed deep sadness over the latest attack in Angwan Rukuba community, Jos North, where unidentified gunmen reportedly killed several residents on Sunday, March 29, 2026.
He also decried reported reprisal attacks in parts of Jos North, which he said had further led to loss of lives and missing persons.
“The latest senseless attack and the numerous others are not only affronts to our shared humanity, but also direct threats to the peace and harmonious coexistence being rebuilt across Plateau State,” he said.
The lawmaker extended his condemnation to a series of violent incidents recorded across the state in recent months. These include the February killings in Zurak and Sabon Gari communities in Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area, attacks on soldiers and residents in Garga community in Kanam Local Government Area, and the ambush of four traders in Pankshin.
He further cited coordinated attacks in Barkin Ladi and Riyom local government areas, where about 10 persons were reportedly killed by gunmen.

Idris also recalled last month’s violence, including the killing of six residents in Miango, Bassa, and the ambush at Wanka community in Kanam Local Government Area, where 12 soldiers and eight vigilantes were reportedly killed.
While condemning all forms of violence regardless of perpetrators or motives, the former Deputy Speaker described such acts as unjustifiable and contrary to the values of humanity.
He sympathised with victims and their families, praying for comfort and justice for those affected by the attacks.
Wase, however, commended the swift response of security agencies, as well as the actions of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, particularly the imposition of a curfew and the initiation of investigations into the causes of the violence.
He called for sustained security efforts across the state, urging security agencies to intensify operations to identify and prosecute perpetrators of the attacks.
“It is obvious that the security situation requires a more decisive and sustained effort. Those behind these acts must be brought to justice,” he stated.
Wase also appealed to residents, community leaders, and stakeholders to remain calm and avoid reprisals, warning that retaliatory actions could escalate tensions and deepen the crisis.
He urged citizens to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that would aid efforts to restore peace.
“Violence has no place in a sane society. Dialogue, justice, and the rule of law remain the only pathways to building a peaceful and progressive Plateau State,” he added.
Wase reaffirmed his solidarity with the people of Plateau State, assuring that efforts would continue to support peace-building initiatives and security interventions across the region.
