Oil Theft: Navy Seizes 15,000 Litres of Illegal Fuel in Rivers
The Nigerian Navy has intercepted about 15,000 litres of suspected illegally refined petroleum products in Rivers State as part of ongoing efforts to curb crude oil theft in the Niger Delta.
The Navy said the operation was carried out by personnel of Nigerian Navy Ship Pathfinder, who acted on credible intelligence to deploy an anti-crude oil theft patrol team to Abua-Odual and Ogbologo areas of the state. During the patrol, two wooden boats laden with suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil were intercepted within the creeks.

It was gathered that the suspects fled on sighting the naval operatives, abandoning the boats and their contents in a bid to evade arrest. The Navy said the recovered products were handled in line with established procedures.
The Service noted that the interception was part of sustained operations under Operation Delta Sentinel aimed at dismantling illegal oil bunkering networks and protecting Nigeria’s economic assets.
The Navy added that the operation aligns with the directive of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, to intensify intelligence-driven operations against economic saboteurs.
It reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the crackdown on illegal refining activities and ensuring the protection of the nation’s maritime environment.
