Senator Buba Declares Bauchi Governorship Ambition, Meets APC Stakeholders, Clerics
Bauchi—Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, has reaffirmed his intention to contest the Bauchi State governorship under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting held at Yimir Hotel in Bauchi, the lawmaker assured supporters of his readiness to contest and win the party’s governorship primary, stressing his commitment to providing effective leadership for the people of the state.
“I remain firmly in the race and fully committed to offering purposeful leadership for Bauchi State,” he said.
Senator Buba expressed confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC leadership to ensure a level playing field for all aspirants, while calling for strict adherence to democratic principles.
He urged party leaders to conduct free, fair, and transparent primaries, emphasising that candidates should emerge based on merit, capacity, and the party’s established guidelines.
The senator also appealed to party members to remain calm amid speculations surrounding the race, noting that all major stakeholders and aspirants within the APC remain united.
In his remarks, the senator’s Special Adviser on Media, Comrade Sabo Mohammed, said the meeting was convened to congratulate the newly elected state executive of the party, promote unity, and reaffirm Buba’s continued participation in the governorship contest.
He added that the senator’s aspiration was driven by calls from the people of the state, citing his leadership qualities and track record of service.
Several speakers at the meeting addressed the issue of consensus candidacy, stressing that any such arrangement must be the outcome of broad consultations involving all aspirants. They pledged to respect the outcome of the primaries, provided the process adheres to due process and the party’s constitution.

Meanwhile, Senator Buba also engaged with religious and community leaders in separate meetings across Bauchi, including a session with the Shura Council of Bauchi State Muslim community, APC stakeholders, and supporters following the party congress.
At a special meeting with the Ulama Council held at Sulgad Hotel, prominent Islamic scholars and clerics, including the Chief Imam of Bauchi Central Mosque, Imam Bala Ahmad Baban Inna, Dr. Bashir Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, Imam Dr. Fatihi Sheikh Dahiru, Dr. Ibrahim Disina, Sheikh Shu’aibu Sambo Luti, and Sheikh Muhammad Rabi’u Jordan, were in attendance alongside representatives of various Islamic sects and organisations.
Chairman of the Shura Council, Sheikh Yusuf Abdullahi Jahun, commended the senator for his representation of Bauchi South and his contributions to community development. He highlighted the lawmaker’s charitable initiatives, including support for education, construction of mosques and Islamic schools, empowerment programmes, and assistance to vulnerable groups.
The scholars described Senator Buba as a compassionate leader with a strong commitment to the welfare of the people, praying for his continued success and good health.
Addressing the gathering, Senator Buba said the meeting was organised to thank Allah for the successful completion of Ramadan and the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations. He also urged clerics to educate their followers on the importance of obtaining Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 elections.
The senator pledged continued engagement with religious leaders and support for civic mobilisation efforts, noting their critical role as moral guides in society.
As part of his support, he donated ₦10 million to assist the activities of the council’s committee.
Political observers say Senator Buba’s renewed declaration and sustained stakeholder engagement signal early momentum ahead of what is expected to be a competitive race for the Bauchi State governorship in 2027.
