CNS: Collaboration Key to Securing Nigeria’s Maritime Domain
The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has said sustained collaboration with key stakeholders is critical to securing Nigeria’s maritime environment.
Abbas stated this on Wednesday while receiving the Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director of New Guard Security and Consultancy Services Limited, Maj. Gen. Jamil Sarham (retd.), during a courtesy visit to Naval Headquarters in Abuja.
According to a statement by the Director of Naval Information, Capt. Abiodun Folorunsho, the naval chief emphasised the need for institutionalised cooperation to tackle evolving maritime security threats.
He noted that effective collaboration among security agencies and private stakeholders would enhance the protection of critical national assets, particularly within Nigeria’s maritime domain.

Earlier, Sarham said the company serves as a coordinating interface between government security agencies and private security companies, aimed at standardising operations and strengthening regulatory compliance.
He added that the firm had established a Project Management Office and commenced full operations, noting that its engagements had helped reduce operational frictions between private security companies and the Armed Forces.
Sarham also commended the Nigerian Navy for its sustained operations against crude oil theft, which he said had contributed to improved oil production and economic stability.
In his remarks, Abbas welcomed the initiative and assured of the Navy’s continued support in advancing coordinated mechanisms to safeguard the nation’s maritime space.
He said previous areas of friction between the Navy and private security companies had been significantly reduced, stressing the importance of sustained synergy.
The naval chief reiterated the commitment of the Nigerian Navy to strengthening partnerships aimed at ensuring maritime security and protecting national economic interests.
