FG Insists on Security Gains, Describes US Alert as Routine Procedure
The Federal Government has reaffirmed Nigeria’s security stability and operational continuity following a recent advisory by the United States authorising the departure of non-emergency personnel from its embassy in Abuja.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, by Rabiu Ibrahim, Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government described the U.S. decision as a routine precaution guided by internal protocols, stressing that it does not reflect the broader security situation in the country.
The Minister, said Nigeria continues to experience measurable progress in its security landscape, despite isolated challenges in some regions.
“While we acknowledge isolated security challenges in some areas, there is no general breakdown of law and order, and the vast majority of the country remains stable,” Idris stated.

He noted that coordinated military operations, intelligence-led interventions, and enhanced inter-agency collaboration have significantly disrupted criminal networks and curtailed the activities of armed groups in affected areas. According to him, these efforts are translating into improved safety for vulnerable communities across the country.
The Federal Government emphasised that public institutions remain fully functional, with no disruption to governance, economic activities, or daily life. It further reassured citizens and international partners of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
Highlighting Nigeria’s economic outlook, the Minister said the country remains open for business, travel, and investment. He added that ongoing reforms are boosting investor confidence and strengthening Nigeria’s global standing, with continued engagement from international partners.
While recognising the right of countries to issue travel advisories based on their assessments, the government called for balanced and up-to-date reporting that reflects the current realities on the ground.
“We encourage our international partners to continuously engage with Nigerian authorities to obtain a more comprehensive and current understanding of the situation,” Idris said.
The government reiterated its commitment to sustaining security improvements and maintaining Nigeria as a safe and welcoming destination for citizens, visitors, and investors alike.
