Ilorin Elite Converge as Third Estate Sets 2027 Economic and Political Agenda
The Third Estate of the Ilorin Emirate has hosted its 2026 Annual Dinner, bringing together the emirate’s intellectual, political, traditional and business elite for what many described as one of the most significant gatherings of Ilorin’s leadership community this year.
The event, held in Ilorin as part of the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, was themed: “Repositioning Ilorin Emirate for Economic Growth, Social Cohesion and Political Relevance in the 21st Century: Pathways and Priorities.”
The dinner came at a critical political moment for Kwara State, with both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) fielding governorship candidates from the Ilorin Emirate ahead of the 2027 elections, thereby intensifying conversations around the emirate’s political future, economic direction and social cohesion.
Speaking at the event, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State commended the Third Estate for its consistent contributions towards complementing government efforts in areas of development, culture and social advancement.
The governor described the theme of the dinner as timely and significant, particularly as the Ilorin Emirate continues to occupy a central position in Kwara’s political and socio-economic landscape.
He pledged continued support for initiatives aimed at preserving the culture and heritage of the Ilorin Emirate, while urging members of the association to sustain efforts towards the development of both the emirate and Kwara State.
In his address, President of the Third Estate of the Ilorin Emirate, Mallam Ahmed Ladan-Gobir, reaffirmed the association’s commitment to unity, development and cultural preservation within the emirate community.
He described the annual gathering as more than a social event, noting that it provides an avenue for members, stakeholders and friends of the association to review achievements, strengthen relationships and renew commitment to the ideals of the organisation.

Mallam Ladan-Gobir highlighted several interventions undertaken by the association in the past year, particularly in healthcare, education, youth empowerment and spiritual development.
According to him, the association organised a medical outreach programme at the Aisha Buhari Mother and Child Hospital, Eiyenkorin, where free eye treatment and eyeglasses were provided to beneficiaries.
He also disclosed that the association awarded scholarships and educational support to indigent students of the University of Ilorin from the emirate as part of efforts to promote academic excellence and youth development.
The Third Estate President commended members of the executive committee, partners and supporters for their financial and moral contributions towards the successful implementation of the association’s programmes.
He pledged that the association would continue to build on its achievements through initiatives capable of positively impacting the Ilorin Emirate community.
The event also featured policy discussions led by two distinguished scholars, Professor Lambe Kayode Mustapha and Professor Hassan Saliu, who examined various dimensions of the theme.
The discussions focused on issues including youth unemployment, entrepreneurship, education, cultural identity, inter-ethnic relations, governance, traditional institutions and the political relevance of the Ilorin Emirate in contemporary Nigeria.
Participants noted that the conversations reflected growing concerns over economic opportunities, social stability and the role of traditional institutions in shaping governance and development within the state.
The presence of Governor AbdulRazaq, who also chairs the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, further underscored the importance attached to the gathering and the strategic role of the Ilorin Emirate in Kwara’s political and developmental agenda.
Widely regarded as one of the emirate’s foremost socio-intellectual platforms, the Third Estate of the Ilorin Emirate has continued to serve as a forum for professionals, academics, business leaders and community stakeholders to deliberate on issues affecting the emirate and Kwara State at large.
Its annual dinner has increasingly evolved into a major intellectual and policy event combining social interaction with strategic conversations on governance, development and the future of the emirate.
