Troops Repel ISWAP Attack, Kill Scores in Air-Ground Offensive Around Buratai
Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have successfully repelled coordinated attacks by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Buratai, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, inflicting heavy casualties on the terrorists during a counter-offensive operation.
According to the military, the attacks occurred in the early hours of Thursday when ISWAP fighters launched multiple assaults on troops’ positions at Dusten Kura and along the Chara Road axis in Buratai.
The Acting Military Information Officer of OPHK, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed in a statement on Friday that vigilant troops, acting on credible intelligence, swiftly detected the insurgents’ movement and responded with a coordinated air and ground operation.
He said the Nigerian Air Force component of Operation HADIN KAI played a critical role in the operation through effective Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions, as well as precision air strikes that targeted the terrorists during the engagement.

“The precision air support integrated seamlessly with ground forces, disrupted the terrorists’ assault and inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers, forcing them to flee in confusion,” the statement said.
Captain Goni noted that no casualties were recorded among the troops during the encounter, while the terrorists suffered significant losses in both manpower and equipment.
The military described the successful operation as another indication of the high level of combat readiness of Operation HADIN KAI forces and the strong synergy between its air and ground components in ongoing counter-insurgency efforts across the North-East.
The Theatre Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorist groups operating in the region, stressing that troops would continue aggressive offensive operations aimed at degrading insurgent capabilities and restoring lasting peace.
The military also called on residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information that could aid ongoing operations.
Operation HADIN KAI has intensified its offensive campaign against terrorist groups in recent months as part of efforts to deny insurgents freedom of movement and strengthen security across the North-East region.
