Troops Repel Terrorist Attack, Rescue Hostages, Recover Arms in Sokoto, Katsina
Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded major operational successes in Sokoto and Katsina states, neutralising terrorists, rescuing abductees, foiling attacks and recovering arms, motorcycles and rustled livestock during coordinated operations.
According to the military, the operations were part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and banditry across the North-West region.
A statement issued on Monday by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said troops on June 21 thwarted an attempted terrorist incursion into Tureta town in Sokoto State.
The statement explained that acting on credible intelligence, troops swiftly engaged the armed terrorists as they attempted to infiltrate the town, forcing them to abandon the operation and flee.
Following the encounter, aerial surveillance assets tracked the fleeing terrorists to Sulubawa Gidan Kare village, where they were reportedly moving with abducted civilians and rustled livestock.
Troops subsequently launched a pursuit operation and encountered resistance from the terrorists, who reportedly staged an ambush while retreating. However, the troops overpowered the assailants after a fierce engagement, forcing them to disperse.

The operation resulted in the rescue of the abductees, recovery of rustled cattle and seizure of two motorcycles allegedly used by the terrorists.
In a separate operation conducted in the early hours of June 22, troops carried out an intelligence-led raid on a suspected terrorist hideout in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The military said the dawn assault caught the terrorists off guard, leading to a firefight during which two suspected terrorists were killed, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.
A subsequent search of the hideout led to the recovery of one PKT assault rifle, one AK-47 rifle, ammunition, three motorcycles, mobile communication devices, rustled livestock and other logistical items believed to have been used in support of terrorist activities.
The military described the operations as a reflection of the determination and professionalism of troops deployed under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, reaffirming its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist and criminal groups across the region.
“The recent successes underscore the resolve of the troops to take the fight directly to terrorist enclaves, dismantle criminal networks and deny them freedom of action,” the statement said.
The military further assured residents that ongoing operations would continue until lasting peace and security are restored across the North-West.
