Gov AbdulRazaq Hails Tinubu Over New Army Battalion in Kwara
Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the establishment of a new Nigerian Army battalion in the state.
The governor described the move as a major boost to ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity, banditry and terrorism.
The new military formation, which will be located in Omu Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area, is expected to strengthen the deployment of troops and military assets to address emerging security threats across Kwara and neighbouring areas.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the governor said the battalion would significantly enhance security operations and improve rapid response to criminal activities, particularly kidnapping and terrorist attacks.
AbdulRazaq also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the prompt processing of the state’s request for increased military presence.

“I express our appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the swiftness with which he graciously processed our request for more hands to strengthen the presence of the Army in the state,” the governor said.
He further acknowledged the support of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and praised the efforts of the Armed Forces, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their continued operations against banditry, terrorism and other violent crimes.
“On behalf of the people and government of our state, I wholeheartedly thank Mr President for yet another promise kept to the state. We are confident that the new battalion will greatly strengthen counterterrorism and anti-kidnapping operations across various theatres,” he stated.
The governor also highlighted ongoing multi-agency security operations aimed at rescuing kidnapped victims, flushing out criminal elements and restoring peace to forested areas that have recently witnessed security challenges.
The establishment of the battalion comes amid sustained efforts by federal and state authorities to enhance security architecture in Kwara State and the North-Central region, where security agencies have intensified operations against criminal groups exploiting forest corridors for kidnapping and other violent crimes.
