PHOTO: Gunmen Ambush Security Patrol, Kill Police Inspector, NAF Personnel in Plateau
Gunmen have ambushed a joint security patrol in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing an Inspector of the Nigeria Police Force and a Lance Corporal of the Nigerian Air Force.
The incident occurred at about 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, along the Ganawuri–Sabon Gida road, according to intelligence personnel who spoke to sources familiar with the incidents.
The sources said four security personnel drawn from two guard locations had mounted a snap roadblock along the route. However, while the team was returning to their respective duty posts, two personnel failed to arrive, prompting an immediate search and clearance operation.

During the operation, security forces discovered the bodies of the two personnel, identified as a police inspector and an Air Force lance corporal.
Their service weapons were reportedly taken by the attackers, while their motorcycle was recovered from the scene. The bodies were subsequently evacuated by the security forces.
Preliminary findings indicated that the ambush occurred near an area previously occupied by Fulani herders, who had reportedly fled the location with their cattle before the arrival of security reinforcements. The scene was also said to be close to a Berom settlement.
Following the attack, security forces launched cordon-and-search operations in nearby communities as part of efforts to track the perpetrators and recover the stolen weapons.
Clearance operations are ongoing, while investigations into the incident continue. Authorities are expected to provide further details as the security operation progresses.
