Operation FANSAN YAMMA Troops Rescue 14 Hostages, Recover Rustled Livestock in Sokoto
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 14 persons abducted by suspected terrorists during a military operation in Horo Birni Village, Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The operation was conducted in the early hours of August 4, 2026, after troops of the 8 Division Strike Team, deployed from the Forward Operating Base in Sifawa, received credible intelligence on the movement of armed terrorists in the area.
According to the military, the terrorists had attacked the community and were attempting to flee with kidnapped residents and rustled livestock.
Acting on the intelligence, the troops swiftly mobilised to intercept the fleeing criminals. They subsequently engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, bringing superior firepower to bear and disrupting their movement.

Unable to withstand the military assault, the terrorists reportedly abandoned their captives and fled into nearby forests and hideouts.
The troops then secured the area and conducted a follow-up search operation, leading to the successful rescue of all 14 victims, who were reportedly freed unharmed.
Some rustled livestock were also recovered during the operation.
The military attributed the successful rescue to timely intelligence gathering, rapid troop deployment and sustained operational pressure against terrorist and bandit groups operating across the North-West.
Troops have intensified efforts to track the fleeing suspects and dismantle their networks while maintaining a strong presence in the area to prevent further attacks.
Residents were also urged to continue providing credible information to security agencies to support ongoing operations against criminal elements.
The latest operation highlights the continued efforts of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protect communities, rescue abducted persons and restore security in areas affected by terrorism and banditry across the North-West.
