Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled a coordinated mass abduction attempt by armed terrorists in Unguwar Rogo village, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, rescuing nine civilians, including an infant.
The operation was conducted on Sunday, August 16, 2026, following a distress call that armed terrorists, led by a suspected kingpin identified as Mallam Shuaibu, had infiltrated the community.
According to a statement on the operation, preliminary intelligence indicated that the attack was carried out as a retaliatory measure following the recent arrest of several suspected collaborators of the terrorist group.
The suspects were reportedly intercepted by troops while attempting to procure motorcycles and Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) for the terrorist syndicate.

In an apparent reprisal, the terrorists allegedly laid an ambush inside a millet farm along a local transit route, targeting passing vehicles.
The attackers reportedly opened fire, causing some drivers to lose control of their vehicles and veer into the surrounding bush, where the terrorists intended to abduct the occupants.
Following the distress call, troops of Sector 2 rapidly mobilised to the area and engaged the attackers, disrupting their operation and forcing them to flee into a nearby forest.
The troops subsequently secured the area and rescued nine civilians, including an infant.
Two female victims who sustained gunshot wounds during the initial attack were evacuated by the troops and are currently receiving medical treatment.
The military said troops have intensified clearance operations in the area to track the fleeing terrorists, dismantle their logistical support networks and prevent further attacks on communities and commuters.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to combating terrorist threats and restoring peace and security across the North-West region.
