CAS Tasks Information Officers on Strategic Communication for Operational Success
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has tasked its Information Officers with leveraging strategic communication as an operational capability to enhance mission success and strengthen public confidence in the Service.
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, gave the charge while declaring open the 2026 Directorate of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI) Annual Media Workshop and Meeting with Information Officers at NAF Headquarters, Abuja.
Represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal AY Abdullahi, the CAS described the theme of the two-day workshop, “Enhancing Strategic Media Operations of NAF Public Relations and Information Personnel Through Capacity Building in Crisis Management Skills,” as timely, given the increasingly complex and contested information environment in which military operations are conducted.
Aneke urged NAF Information Officers to strengthen their professional capacity to effectively manage information and communication during crises, stressing that strategic communication had evolved from a supportive function into an essential component of military operations.
He said effective public communication now contributes directly to operational success, adding that every communication from the Service must reflect accuracy, professionalism, integrity and timeliness.

The CAS also charged Information Officers to use communication strategically to improve public understanding of NAF operations, protect institutional credibility and build confidence in the Service.
He further emphasised the need to communicate the achievements of NAF operations purposefully and responsibly, taking into account the information needs of both internal and external audiences.
The workshop featured a presentation by the Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria, Alhaji Baba Ndache, and brought together former and serving NAF spokespersons, Branch Chiefs, Information Officers, media professionals and other resource persons.
The participation of retired senior officers who previously served as NAF spokespersons, including Air Commodore Yusuf Anas, Air Commodore Ozomina, Air Vice Marshal Olatokunbo Adesanya and Air Vice Marshal Ibikunle Daramola, provided an avenue for institutional knowledge transfer and professional interaction.
The engagement underscored DOPRI’s commitment to developing a credible, coordinated and strategically aligned communication architecture capable of supporting NAF operational effectiveness and broader national security objectives.
The workshop is expected to further strengthen the crisis communication, media engagement and information management capabilities of NAF personnel as the Service continues to operate in an increasingly dynamic information environment.
