PHOTO: Troops Foil Kidnapping Attempt, Rescue 14 Victims in Zamfara
Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled an attempted mass abduction and rescued 14 kidnapped victims during a swift response to credible intelligence in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation was conducted on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, following intelligence reports on suspicious activities around Magazu Village, according to security sources.
Acting on the information, the troops promptly deployed to the area and encountered armed individuals who were reportedly attempting to abduct civilians, including motorists.
The troops engaged the assailants, effectively disrupting the operation and forcing them to abandon their vehicle and flee into nearby bushes.
The troops subsequently launched a pursuit and search operation in the surrounding area, during which they located and rescued 14 abducted persons.

One of the rescued victims sustained gunshot wounds during the incident. The victim was immediately evacuated to the General Hospital, Tsafe, where medical attention was provided.
There were no reported casualties among the troops during the operation.
The successful intervention underscores the importance of timely intelligence and rapid military response in disrupting criminal activities and protecting civilians along vulnerable routes in the state.
Zamfara has remained one of the states in Nigeria’s North-West affected by persistent banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes, prompting sustained military operations under Operation FANSAN YAMMA to degrade armed groups and rescue victims.
The latest operation also highlights the ongoing efforts by security forces to prevent kidnappers and other armed groups from exploiting rural communities and major transport corridors in the state.
Security forces are expected to sustain patrols, intelligence-led operations and clearance activities in the area to prevent the fleeing assailants from regrouping and to further strengthen the protection of civilians.
