Troops Neutralise Terrorist in Yobe, Arrest Soldier with Ammunition in Plateau
Troops conducting counter-terrorism and internal security operations in Yobe and Plateau states have neutralised a suspected terrorist, recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition, and arrested a serving soldier found in possession of military-grade ammunition and equipment.
In Yobe State, troops of 120 Task Force Battalion, in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), ambushed a group of terrorists at Lamusuri in Gujba Local Government Area at about 11 a.m. on September 1.
Security sources said the troops successfully engaged the terrorists during the operation, neutralising one of the attackers.
The troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, two additional magazines, 90 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition and a body pouch.
The recovered weapons and ammunition have been taken into military custody for further action.
The operation was conducted as part of sustained efforts by troops of Operation HADIN KAI to disrupt terrorist activities and deny armed groups freedom of movement across Yobe State.

Meanwhile, in Plateau State, troops of Sector 1, Operation ENDURING PEACE, arrested a serving soldier and recovered 69 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm Special ammunition and other military items during a stop-and-search operation at Babale Checkpoint in Jos North Local Government Area.
The soldier, identified as 13NA/70/8069 Corporal Legedu Denebari of 109 Special Forces Battalion, Magumeri, Borno State, was arrested at about 8:15 p.m. on September 2 during routine security checks.
Items recovered from him included one magazine, 69 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm Special ammunition, two Strike Force ballistic plates, two jack knives, a mobile phone, a power bank, a helmet, a Nigerian Army identity card and two pairs of camouflage uniforms.
Preliminary investigations established that the soldier was on pass from his unit to Rivers State, effective September 2.
The soldier and the recovered items have been taken into custody as military authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the movement and possession of the ammunition and other military equipment.
The developments highlight the importance of sustained stop-and-search operations and intelligence-led security checks in preventing the unauthorised movement of arms, ammunition and military equipment within the Joint Operations Area.
