Troops Rescue 12 Kidnap Victims, Foil Abduction Attempts in Zamfara
Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 12 civilians and thwarted separate abduction attempts during operations in Kaura Namoda and Tsafe Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.
The operations were conducted on Monday, September 7, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist activities and protect communities and motorists across the joint operations area.
In the first incident, troops responded to a distress call following the infiltration of suspected terrorists into a residence at Tsohon Tasha in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.
The troops engaged the attackers, forcing them to abandon six abducted civilians and flee across a nearby river.
The rescued victims were subsequently evacuated and reunited with their families.

In a separate operation in Tsafe Local Government Area, troops monitoring activities along the Main Supply Route observed suspected terrorists attempting to intercept a Sharon vehicle at Kwanoni village.
The troops swiftly mobilised to the location and engaged the terrorists, compelling them to abort the attempted attack and withdraw into a nearby bush.
Six civilians were subsequently rescued during the operation.
The military said the successful operations demonstrated the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA troops to protecting lives and property while disrupting terrorist activities and denying criminal elements freedom of movement across the joint operations area.
The operation urged residents to continue providing security agencies with timely and relevant information to support ongoing efforts to eradicate terrorist elements from the area.
