FRSC Secures Jail Term for Dangerous Driver in Abuja Mobile Court

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), RS7.1 FCT Sector Command, has secured the conviction of one Abubakar Halilu, who was sentenced to three weeks’ imprisonment at the Suleja Correctional Centre for multiple traffic offences, including dangerous driving, assault on a Marshal, and resisting arrest.

Halilu was arrested on Monday, September 14, 2026, during a mobile court operation at the Life Camp Unit Command, Abuja.

According to the Sector Command, he was driving a Mitsubishi vehicle when he allegedly committed several offences, including driver’s licence violation, overloading, seatbelt use violation, and assaulting an FRSC Marshal while resisting arrest.

Delivering judgment, His Worship Theresa, Magistrate of the Chief Magistrate Court, Wuse Zone 6, convicted the defendant and sentenced him to three weeks in prison, with an option of a ₦30,000 fine.

The FRSC described the ruling as a clear affirmation of the rule of law.

“Our personnel are mandated to enforce road safety regulations in the interest of protecting lives and property, and we will not tolerate acts of violence, obstruction or resistance against Marshals carrying out their lawful duties,” the Corps stated.

The Corps urged motorists to comply with traffic regulations and cooperate with enforcement personnel.

“We call on all road users to desist from conduct capable of endangering others or obstructing lawful enforcement operations. Promotion of safer roads remains our commitment through sustained public education, compliance monitoring and lawful enforcement,” the statement added.
