Nigeria @66: Defence Minister urges Nigerians to unite for peace, security
The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa (retd.), has urged Nigerians to strengthen national unity, sustain faith and support the country’s security forces as the nation marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
Musa made the call on Sunday at an inter-denominational church service held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
The service, themed “Anchored on Hope: The Path to Divine Stability and Shared Prosperity,” brought together senior government officials, Christian faithful, members of the diplomatic corps and other dignitaries.
The Minister, who delivered the first Scripture reading, said lasting peace and national prosperity depended on collective commitment to unity and security.
“As we mark 66 years of our nationhood, our hope for a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Nigeria remains unshakeable,” he said.
Musa described security as more than an operational responsibility, stressing that it remained a critical foundation for national unity and shared prosperity.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to protecting the country’s sovereignty and restoring lasting peace across the various regions.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain resolutely committed to safeguarding our sovereignty and restoring lasting peace across all regions.
“I urge all Nigerians to remain steadfast, support our men and women in uniform, and unite in faith as we build a nation anchored on divine stability,” he added.
The service was attended by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; Service Chiefs; members of the diplomatic corps and senior clergy.
In his remarks, Akpabio offered prayers for the nation and emphasised the need for harmony and collective efforts to achieve sustainable peace.
Akume, who delivered the vote of thanks, also underscored the importance of democratic stability as Nigeria approaches future civic milestones.
“As we look toward the 2027 elections ahead, let us remember that democracy is sustained by peace and unity,” the SGF said, urging Nigerians to continue supporting the democratic process.
The inter-denominational service ended with the ceremonial cutting of the 66th Independence Anniversary cake by Musa and other dignitaries.
