NAF, NEMA Deepen Partnership on Disaster Response, Search and Rescue Operations
The Nigerian Air Force and the National Emergency Management Agency have agreed to deepen collaboration on disaster response, search and rescue, medical support and emergency preparedness.
The commitment was made on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, when the Director-General of NEMA, Mrs Zubaida Umar, paid a courtesy visit to the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, at the Headquarters of the Nigerian Air Force in Abuja.
The engagement focused on strengthening the longstanding partnership between the two agencies and improving Nigeria’s capacity to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies and humanitarian situations.
A major area of discussion was the increased participation of NAF Disaster Response Units in search and rescue exercises, as well as enhanced medical cooperation and operational preparedness.

The agencies also explored opportunities for joint training, specialised disaster-management simulations and capacity development aimed at improving coordination during emergencies.
A statement on the meeting said the initiatives were designed to enhance the effectiveness of both agencies in responding to disasters and other situations requiring coordinated humanitarian intervention.
Aneke acknowledged NEMA’s critical role in national disaster management and reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s readiness to strengthen collaboration in areas that contribute to the protection of lives and communities.
The engagement also underscored the Air Chief’s emphasis on strategic inter-agency partnerships and the need to leverage the complementary capabilities of government agencies to improve disaster response, search and rescue, humanitarian assistance and national resilience.
