COAS Tasks Army War College Graduates on Joint Operations, Intelligence Sharing
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has urged graduates of the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) to strengthen Nigeria’s response to evolving security threats through joint operations, intelligence-driven planning and the integration of multi-domain warfare capabilities.
Shaibu gave the charge on Friday, October 16, 2026, at the graduation ceremony of AWCN Course 10/2026 in Abuja, where he emphasised the need for military commanders to adapt to an increasingly complex security environment.
He said contemporary security challenges required commanders capable of integrating combat power, emerging technologies and inter-agency capabilities to achieve decisive operational outcomes.
The Army Chief described the expansion of the Nigerian Army from eight to 12 divisions as a strategic measure to enhance territorial coverage and improve operational responsiveness across the country.

He urged the graduates to translate the knowledge and professional competencies acquired during the course into improved combat effectiveness through actionable intelligence, technological integration, effective command and control, and sustained collaboration among security agencies.
Shaibu also charged the officers to uphold the highest standards of military professionalism while advancing Nigeria’s national security objectives.
The course graduated 100 participants, comprising 85 Nigerian Army officers, two Nigerian Navy officers, two Nigerian Air Force officers and 11 military officers from eight African countries.
The composition of the graduating class reflects the college’s role in developing operational-level military leaders while promoting joint-service cooperation and strengthening defence partnerships among African countries.
The training is also aimed at enhancing collective capacity to address shared security challenges through coordinated planning, information sharing and cooperation among participating military institutions.
