Bauchi 2027: Shehu Buba’s Lawyers Break Silence on APM Suit, Defend Candidature
The legal team of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) governorship candidate in Bauchi State, Senator Shehu Buba Umar, has reacted to a lawsuit filed by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) challenging his nomination for the February 2027 governorship election, insisting that his candidature remains valid and in compliance with electoral laws.
The lawyers maintained that Senator Buba’s emergence as the PRP governorship candidate followed the party’s internal nomination procedures and complied with applicable legal requirements.
In a statement signed by Jibrin S. Jibrin, Esq., a Notary Public and Coordinator of Senator Shehu Buba Umar’s Legal Team, the lawyers acknowledged a press briefing by the Bauchi State Legal Adviser of the APM, Jidauna Tula, Esq., concerning a suit reportedly instituted at the Federal High Court in Bauchi.
Jibrin, who also holds the traditional titles of Barden Galambi and Danmalikin Miri, said neither Senator Buba nor the PRP had been formally served with the court processes relating to the case.
He explained that the legal team would refrain from discussing the substance of the litigation until the relevant documents had been served on the parties.
“Our client, Senator Shehu Buba Umar, and the party, PRP, having not been formally served with the court processes concerning the matter, we will refrain from discussing the matter until the court papers are served on our client and the party,” the statement said.
The lawyers, however, maintained that the governorship candidate’s nomination was conducted in accordance with the law and the party’s internal procedures.
According to the statement, the legal team had previously issued a comprehensive clarification on the circumstances surrounding Senator Buba’s emergence as the PRP candidate, which was published by mainstream and online media organisations.
The team reiterated its position that the nomination was valid and that the party’s other candidates in Bauchi State had also fulfilled the applicable legal requirements.

“Senator Shehu Buba’s emergence as PRP governorship candidate in Bauchi State, apart from being an internal affair of his party, was carefully and properly conducted in accordance with the applicable laws,” the lawyers stated.
They added that the earlier clarification remained their position pending formal service of the suit and any subsequent developments in the proceedings.
“Our client, Senator Shehu Buba, and indeed all PRP candidates’ tickets in Bauchi State are intact and in full compliance with the law in every material particular,” the statement declared.
The legal team did not provide details of the specific grounds on which the APM is challenging the nomination, maintaining that it would address the litigation more fully after receiving the court documents.
The lawyers also expressed appreciation to supporters and political associates who had continued to demonstrate solidarity with the senator following reports of the legal challenge.
They described the expressions of support and goodwill as encouraging, while reaffirming their confidence in the candidate’s political prospects.
“As always, we remain highly appreciative of the outpouring of support, concern and goodwill being extended to Senator Shehu Buba Umar from far and near each time issues concerning him arise,” the statement said.
The team attributed the support for Buba’s candidature to divine providence and expressed optimism about his chances in the forthcoming election.
It also appealed for continued goodwill towards the senator, the PRP and Bauchi State as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
The statement concluded by reaffirming the legal team’s position that Senator Buba’s governorship nomination remains intact, while indicating that any substantive response to the APM’s allegations would be made through the appropriate legal process.
The Federal High Court is expected to determine the issues raised in the suit in accordance with the law, while the validity of the nomination remains the subject of the reported legal challenge.
