Gov Bala Visits Prison, Celebrates with Inmates

As part of activities marking the June 12th democracy day celebration, the Bauchi State Governor, Sen. Bala A. Muhammed yesterday visited Bauchi Prison to celebrate with inmates.

The Governor who alongside his Deputy, Sen.Baba Tela, the SSG and other members of his entourage, noted that he was in the prison to celebrate with the inmates as part of his administration’s resolve to identify with the less privileged and vulnerable members of the society.

Governor Bala Muhammed expressed his concern over the prison congestion noting that it’s a general phenomenon found in almost all the nation’s Prisons. He directed the State Chief Judge to look into the preponderance of awaiting trial inmates in the prison with a view to taking urgent measures aimed at reducing the number.

The Bauchi State Governor promised to look into some of the challenges confronting the prison as presented to him by the prison authority. He added that he will make provision for a skill acquisition centre for the prison, refurbish the prison’s referral hospital as well as providing beddings for the well being of the inmates. The Governor then donated three (3) cows and 20 bags of rice for the inmates to celebrate the day happily.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Controller of Prisons, Suleiman T.Suleiman who was represented by the Deputy Controller Admin, DCP Magaji Habu Wuyo, appreciated the Governor for his visit describing it as historic. He disclosed that until his visit, no sitting Governor has visited the Prison in the last one decade.
The officer in charge of the Prison, DCP. Suleiman Inuwa also thanked the Governor for identifying with the prison inmates and wished him success in his administration.
