Borstal: Students in Youth Detention Centre Excel in WAEC, JAMB 2019
The recently released West African Examination Council (WAEC) witnessed an unprecedented improvement in the performance of the student of Borstal Training Institution, Abeokuta. The institution had registered eleven (11) students for the May/June 2019 examination, 10 out of the 11 students registered had credit pass in Mathematics and English language. All the registered students had 6 credits pass in different combination of subjects that puts them in a position for tertiary institution admission.

Earlier in the year some of the students sat for Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Computer Based Test (CBT) examination, they scored above the JAMB benchmark scores for eligibility for admission with the least scoring student had 181marks while the highest scoring student scored 267marks. Most of the students are preparing for post UTME CBT examination of their various institution of interest for their choice course to study.
The newly posted Controller of Prisons V O OGBEBOR was delighted with the performance of the students as it surpasses her expectation, she seize the moment to appreciate everyone –staff , corpers, volunteer teachers, NGO’s, groups and bodies that have contributed to the success recorded in the examination and in the welfare of the student and support to the institution. The students were not left out as she admonished them and encouraged them not to relent in their strive to be better as their examination success is an initial step towards a brighter future and its only hard work, persistent and other good virtues they learnt while in the institution will see them through achieving their desired goals in life. She also uses the opportunity to speak to some parents and guardians present on their roles as parent and what they need to do to sustain their wards steady positive progress path.
