IPCR Presents Book to  Honour  its Ex DG

The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has presented a book in honour of one of its former Director General, Prof. Joseph Golwa for his selfless service in peace building and conflict prevention in the Nigeria.

The book titled “Nigeria in Global Governance, Peace and Security: Essay in Honour of Professor Golwa” was presented to the general public on Thursday 22nd August, 2019 at IPCR Complex in Abuja.

Speaking during the event, the Director General IPCR, Dr. Bakut T. Bakut said that the former Director General was the architect of the passage of the Institute’s Act N0.34 of 2007.

“As the second Director General of the Institute, he was able to put in place structures that are enduring such as working to ensure the passage of the Institute’s Act in 2007, sustaining conflict mitigation and mediation across the country; positioning the staff for effective service delivery through enhanced package; initiated the operationalization of the National and Zonal Conflict Early Warning Response System among others”, he said.

Dr. Bakut explained that notable scholars contributed to the production of the book, useful information on diverse issues on governance, peace and security.

He said: “The book turned out to be an excellent project worth the readership of diplomats, academia, public analysts, and students and indeed the general public.”

He added that the book addressed issues of interest to contemporary concern across the world at the policy and strategic levels

In his remark, the Chairman of the occasion, former Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Aminu Wali said that Prof. Golwa has contributed a lot in the development of the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in general.

He also commended the present Director General of the Institute Dr. Bakut. T Bakut for his foresight in providing lasting solutions to some of the challenges facing the country.

In his comment, the Honouree, Prof. Joseph Golwa appreciated present the Director General Dr. Bakut for providing conducive environment for the occasion. He thanked all other dignitaries that attended the occasion.

Prof. Golwa was the Second Director General of the Institute since its creation. He was appointed as the Director General in April 2006 and was reappointed for second term in 2010.

Before his appointment as Director General of the Institute, Prof. Golwa was a Director of Defense and Security Studies in Institute. In 2004 he headed the Technical committee that planed peace process that marked the end of Emergency rule after six months in Plateau State.
