NUJ Honours Bello Kankara in Katsina

The Katsina state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has honoured, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara the Kanwan Katsina among the prominent indigenes of the state during press week and award night.

The award night which was part of a weeklong activity of the Union was held at Bouquet Hall, Old Government House Katsina.

Also honoured at the occasion was Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari among other personalities in the State.

The NUJ acknowledged various achievements and contributions of the Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara when he served served in the Nigerian Cistoms Service and as the District Head of Ketare.

The Kanwa of Katsina was a good ambassador of Katsina state when he during thirty five years with the Nigeria Customs where he received a letter of commendation from Katsina state government in 2000 during the administration of Late Umaru Yar’adua for making Katsina state proud.

Alhaji Kankara served as Customs Area controller in Kano, Jigawa, Sokkoto, Kebbi, Zamfara and FCT Abuja where he improved the revenue generation to the coffers of the Federal Government.

The Kanwa finally retired at Port-Harcourt, Rivers state where he served as controller of Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service which cover Bayelsa, Edo, Delta, Akwa Ibo, and Cross Rivers States.

An alumnus of the prestigious Nigeria Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies Kuru, near Jos where he earns the mni award.

During his service days with the Nigeria Customs, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara served as Public Relation Officer for ten years and received an award for the best PRO of customs.

As a District Head, Alhaji Kankara has contributed immensely to the socio-economic activities of people of his domain in the areas of health, education and agriculture. He is
among the front runners in the peace initiatives of the Katsina state government led by Governor Masari between Fulani herdsmen and farmers.
