NEMA Flags Off Operation Eagle-Eyes on Road Safety

NEMA Flags Off Operation Eagle-Eyes in North-West
In an effort to curtail the road traffic accidents especially during this festive periods, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nigeria Red Cross Society and other critical stakeholders in disaster management has warned motorists for safety on highways.

NEMA traditionally has always put focus on the question of road traffic accidents most especially in this period through its initiated “Operation Eagle Eye” exercise to keep vigil to ensure safety on the highways.

Every end of year the agency has been coordinating resources towards responding to road accidents vulnerability especially at this period of rush hour in which people travel for the yuletide celebrations which makes the highways busy.

Responding to the press at the flag-off ceremony which took place in Kebbi-Sokoto highway, Head of NEMA Sokoto Operations Office, Dr. Kofoworola Soleye stated, “Major Highways across Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states has been earmarked for the exercise between the months of December and January.

Dr. Soleye who was represented by the head of Search and Rescue Unit, Ambursa Aminu Shayau said “the agency with other organisation officials will be in strategic places on these roads to monitor and tackle reckless driving, we also indulged drivers to be moderate on their speed limit and to avoid any intoxicant behavior. Passengers should also be wary of the driving ability of the person who takes control of the vehicle they boarded”

The agency skilled personnel with knowledge on modern rescue techniques, equipments, first responder’s responsibilities and skills, car extrication, search and rescue operation procedures, incidence management, practical on extrication as a mission and first aid is a major boost during the exercise.

The FRSC Sector Commandant, Mohammad Kaigama Kabo however warned motorists to avoid reckless driving and obey road regulations, he further commended NEMA’s relentless effort in sustaining the exercise every end of year for more than a decade.

Also, the Branch Secretary of Red Cross Abubakar Mohammad said the operation which will last for twelve days on the highways has been successful since it’s inception.
