CP Abang Explains Rampant Fire Incidents in Anambra
Concerned over the rampant cases of fire incidents which has now become almost a daily occurrence in Anambra State, the Commissioner of Police CP John B. Abang, fdc is hereby urging “Ndi Anambra” and residents alike to endeavour and take preventive measures in order to avert or minimize cases of fire outbreaks ravaging the State.
The CP who stated that Statistics by the Command reveal that the major causes of fire incidents in Anambra State are basically Harmattan season, Bush burning, Electricity, careless handling of Gas cooker, over-speed, overloading of trucks and potholes etc, also expresses regrets over the incessant incidents.
CP Abang thereby cautions the Public against bush burning, reckless driving especially by trucks laden with inflammable substances, and overloading, which incessantly cause electric sparks when in contact with EEDC cables hovering across the highways.
Consequently, the CP enjoins residents of Anambra State to always switch off all electronic appliances in their homes and various offices when not in use to avoid Electric power surge.
It would be recalled that, between 16/10/2019 and date, the Command has recorded about twenty five (25) cases of fire incidents officially reported as follows, Six(6) cases involving trucks, ten (10) cases involving residential buildings, two (2) cases involving markets, two(2) cases involving schools, three(3) cases involving government offices, one case each affecting a Church and hotel respectively.
The resultant effects of the above cases of fire incidents include loss of lives, injuries to persons and destruction of buildings and numerous properties worth billions of Naira, thereby subjecting the victims to untold hardships.

Following the distress call, Police operatives attached to the Command Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) swung into action and trailed the suspects to their hideouts along Eze-Iweka by high tension Awada. However, on sighting the Police, the hoodlums resisted arrest and engaged the Police into a fierce gun battle after which two (2) suspects were fatally wounded. Suspects were rushed to the hospital for treatment but one of them whose identity is yet unknown was confirmed dead on arrival while the second suspect identified as Michael Ogbonna ‘m’ aged 45 years of Achina town in Aguata LGA of Anambra State who also sustained gunshot injuries on his leg is receiving treatment. 3. It would interest you to note that all the suspects are members of the same syndicate. One major factor responsible for the overall successes recorded by the Command was the support of the good people of “Ndi Anambra” who have been extremely law abiding and very cooperative with the personnel of the security agencies. I urged the people of the State to sustain this level of cooperation with the Police at all times. We are indeed in an era where Community Policing remains the vogue and the people we are serving continue to demand for excellent service.
4. Finally, I also encouraged the good people of Anambra State to be security conscious at all times; and report any strange observation or suspicious movements to the security agencies for prompt response, please.
Thank you and God bless.
