Governor Yero Urges Christians To Pray For Peaceful Elections, Unity

His Excellency, Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero has called on the entire Christian community in Kaduna State to use the Christmas season in praying for peaceful conduct of next year’s general elections which is critical to sustaining peace and harmony not only in the state but the country at large. 
 
In a goodwill message to the people of the State signed by the Spokesperson to the Governor, Mallam Ahmed Maiyaki to mark the Yuletide season, the Governor called on the entire citizens, especially Christians to use the period for sober reflection on the message of peace, love and salvation to mankind through the birth of Jesus Christ.
 
The Governor said “as a holy period when Christians all over the World mark the birth of Jesus Christ, it is imperative to reflect on the basic tenets of Christianity anchored on peace, love and unity of the whole mankind.”
 
He therefore urged the entire people of the State to use the period of 2014 Christmas to forge greater unity, peace and love among the diverse people of State saying “let’s use the opportunity provided by Christmas to pray for peaceful elections next year.” 
 
The Governor also called for prayers for immediate end to the current insurgency going on in some parts of the country while urging adherents of the two main religions to continue to live in harmony saying “let’s extend hands of fellowship to one another irrespective of difference in religion or ethnic groups.”
 
The Governor also called on Muslims and Christians in the State to pay each other homage and engage in social interactions during the holiday period, in order to further cement the existing atmosphere of peace and unity in the state.
 
He called on especially youths to desist from acts detrimental to peace during the Christmas celebrations and after saying “young people should not allow themselves to be used negatively by selfish people. They should also desist from acts that could breach peace, such as indulging in the use of illicit drugs, street fighting, use of fire crackers and other forms of social vices.”
 
Governor Yero assured all people in the State of adequate security arrangements to ensure a hitch free Yuletide period. He wishes all Christians peaceful Christmas celebrations and a Happy New Year 2015 in advance.
