    COVID-19: NEMA, Stakeholders Restrategise on Disater Management in Sokoto

    COVID-19: NEMA, Stakeholders Restrategise on Disater Management in Sokoto

    In an effort to maintain and strengthen the existing synergy to tackle disaster and other related issues, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has staged a one day consultative and interactive meeting of critical stakeholders in disaster management amid COVID-19 which has impacted untold hardship globally.

    The programme is expected to come up with vital suggestions, workable policies and strategies that will enhance mitigation, preparedness and response, to the menace of all kinds disasters like pandemics, windstorm, flood, drought, desertification, fire outbreaks, which has threatened economic activities and security challenges as a result of armed banditry which have become a recurring decimal in some major part of the country.

    The Director General, NEMA, AVM Muhammadu Alhaji Muhammed (rtd) said; Disaster Management is the coordination and integration of all activities necessary to build, sustain and improve the capacity to prepare for, protect against, respond to and recover from threatening or actual natural or human-induced disasters. It is a multi-jurisdictional, multi-sectoral, multi-displinary and multi-resource initiative.

    Muhammad who was represented by the head, NEMA Sokoto operations office, Dr. Kofoworola Soleye, continued “Therefore, it is vital that the Federal, State and Local Government, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOS), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and the private sector discharge their respective roles and responsibilities and complement each other in achieving shared goals of disaster management.”

    He then urged all responsible authorities concern to give their maximum support and cooperation desired so that together we can all achieve the desired purpose of timely response. The involvement of different actors and Stakeholders in disaster management requires the existence of a coordination and collaboration mechanism.

    Finally He concluded with registering of his appreciation to the state government and others for all their relentless assistance.
