#EndSARS: FG Reassures Justice for Victims Of Police Brutality
…AS NHRC PRESENTS REPORT ON INCIDENCES ASSOCIATED WITH THE POLICE FORCE
The Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister(HAGF) of Abubakar Malami SAN, has assured Nigerians especially the ‘End SARS Protesters of Executive Justice in terms of possible considerations for prosecutions and associated incidental administrative steps.
The HAGF disclosed this in his speech, when the Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission(NHRC) Tony Ojukwu presented a Report of the Presidential Panel on Reform of SARS in Abuja on Monday October 19th,2020.
Malami explained that he received the Reports as been presented by the Committee and assured that the Federal Government will do justice to it.
According to the Minister, “Let me start by way of setting the record straight and clear that justice is a multiple way traffic, the responsibility of a government first and foremost to Nigerians is that of ensuring the welfare and indeed peace of the Nation as it relates to peaceful existence within the context of the constitutional provisions”.
‘’We must naturally ensure justice to the victims of impunity, cratesful infractions’’, he added.
He emphasized that Government must as well go further to ensure the national interest is indeed upheld over and adhered in any other individual considerations.

He noted that the Law Enforcement Agencies saddled with the responsibility at the risk of their lives of bringing criminality to justice must also be considered, “it is indeed a no- one- way traffic affair whereby you consider one interest in exclusivity has been over and above the national interest component of it”.
He promised that with the consideration in mind, the report will be looked into not on a one -way traffic arrangement or perhaps considering instructions.
Malami explained that Buhari’s administration has taken steps which includes police Act 2020, Police Trust Fund and other necessary reforms approach such as welfare of police, training, community policing which is in line with best practices.
In his remarks the Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission, Tony Ojukwu Esq. said that the purpose of the visit to the HAGF was to submit a Report of the list of all the officers who have been indicted for further necessary actions as part of the mandate of the panel of enquiry.
He also said, ‘’a gratifying point for the Committee is that they were able to carry out the enquiry. ‘’They have gone to the four geopolitical zones, listen to their complaints, made a lot of discovery as capsulated in the report and the details is handed over to the HAGF”.
He thanked the HAGF for the opportunity given to them as shortest time.
