The Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, FCNA, FCTI, has called on members of the Charted Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, to come up with more innovative, workable and implementable ways of improving on the tax regime in the Country to enable government actualize its programmes in this direction.Speaking yesterday, when he received the President and Council members of the Chartered Institute of taxation of Nigeria, in his office at the Treasury, House, Mr. Idris noted that as the nation grapples with the challenges posed by the dwindling global oil price, which has made government revenue drop to about 40%, taxation remains one of the most viable options of shoring- up revenue. He stressed on the need for the Institute to collaborate with Government in its fight against corruption by coming up with strategies of how to effectively block the leakages that also exists in the tax system to ensure that monies collected do not end up in individual pockets.
Assuring them of the support of his office to their activities, the Accountant-General of the Federation, said that the Treasury will work with the institute to develop the capacity of Staff who are members of the institute to enable them perform their work well.
Earlier, the president and chairman of Council of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Dr. Olateju Abiola Somorin, FCTI, told the AGF that they have come to congratulate him on his appointment as the 12th Accountant-General of the Federation.
She said that the Institute is proud to associate with the strides already made by the AGF in the short period he has been in office and to thank him for his support to the activities of the organization. #
