The Federal Ministry of Information and Culture is to spend N49 billion in 2017 for its services, Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma announced Monday at the Public Presentation of the 2017 budget proposals in Abuja.
He said that the sum of N41 billion has been proposed for the Ministry’s capital projects while the sum of N8 billion was proposed for overhead expenditure in the sector.
The Minister made the disclosure following comments and observations by some members of the public at the public presentation on the proposed budget estimates that they did not hear the amount of money proposed for the vital Information and Culture sectors.
While responding to the observations, Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed stated that the Ministry would commence Digital Switch Over broadcast in Abuja on Thursday, December 22 and that 30 free channels would be available to all owners of television top-set boxes.
He similarly expressed the determination of the Ministry to intensify the Change Begins With Me campaign, which he described as the flagship proramme of the Ministry.
The Minister said that the Ministry would hold a Town Hall meeting with youths on Tuesday at the State Banquet Hall.
