Fact-Check: Did Peter Obi Agree to Back Atiku for Presidential Poll as Shared by Festus Keyamo on Twitter?
Claim: A report by an online medium claims Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate Peter Obi has agreed to a deal to clear the path for the emergence of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar at the presidential polls.
Full Text: Reacting to the report which he shared in a tweet via his verified account, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment of Nigeria who doubles as a leading spokesperson of APC Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo, said, “We told the OBIdient soldiers that their ‘hero’ was taking them to nowhere; taking them for a ride of the century and for political 419! We laugh! We are ahead of them!????”
PRNigeria recalls that the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, Peter Obi
both of them vying for the 2023 presidential election met and spoke at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) 62nd annual general conference.
Also in attendance were the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential running mate, Kassim Shettima; and Chimamanda Adichie.
Verification:
PRNigeria contacted Mr Peter Obi’s media aide, Valentine Obienyem who debunked the claim as false.
“HE Obi is fully in the race,” Obienyem affirmed.
Also, when contacted, Paul Ibe, Media Aide to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar said, “The last time I checked Atiku is of the PDP and Obi is of the Labour Party where he is their president candidate so such a pact is not known to us.”

Following a petition to PRNigeria Fact-Check Desk on podium reporters the medium that published the story alleging bias against the Labour Party presidential candidate, PRNigeria did a sentiment analysis of the platform and discovered that the website has published negative reports on Peter Obi, showing an obvious pattern of slant on the Labour Party candidate. A similar analysis of the other candidates shows positive and favourable reports on the presidential candidate of All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as seen in search results here and a few about Atiku of PDP here.
Using the WhoIs website verification database tool, PRNigeria ran a search of the website and results indicate that it was registered about a year ago, precisely on 11th May 2021 in the United State.
Conclusion: There is NO EVIDENCE to prove that Labour Party Presidential candidate Peter Obi has agreed to a deal to clear the path for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar’s emergence at the polls. The report by PodiumReporters.com as shared by Labour Minister of State on his Twitter is therefore FALSE.
