2023: NUJ tasks members on professional coverage, reporting of security, elections issues
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) zone A has advised its members to ensure professionalism in covering the security related issues and the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) zone A expressed its commitment to ensure safety and protection of its members in the Zone.
At a meeting presided over by the Vice President of the Zone, Comrade Muhammad Tukur Umar, the leadership of the union in the zone, acknowledged the efforts of security operatives in their quest to end banditry and other sundry crimes in the Northwest and urged them to redouble efforts thier to restore normalcy in the region.
Specifically, we commended the tactical operation of the Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Police Command, CP Yusuf Kolo for the strategy he is applying to crush criminals and their accomplices.

We equally applauded the efforts of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air force, Department of state services (DSS) and Nigeria security and civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) as well as other security agencies for their relentless efforts to make the northwest a safe place. However, we charged them to intensify their operations more especially by collaboration and synergy in the fight against criminals. We appealed to them about the need to improve intelligence gathering through renewed community engagement for better result.
The NUJ leadership in the northwest expressed it commitment and determination to collaborate with the independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure smooth conduct of the 2023 general elections through engaging journalists in rigorous sensitization and workshops to enable them play their roles effectively.
The NUJ Zone A also resolved to partner with relevant stakeholders to improve capacity training of Journalists within the zone and to diverse means of generating funds for its day to day activities rather than relying on government and politicians.
In conclusion, the executives of the union in the northwest have expressed their sympathy and condolence to the victims and their families, governments and the people of various states affected by banditry and flood.
