The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has emerged the best overall research institution of the just concluded Technology and Innovation Expo 2017. The event, which was organized by the Federal Ministry of Technology, was to encourage indigenous technology and innovation towards national development.
The competition offered a platform for functional interaction between investors and research institutions. Among the locally made hardware that earned the NAF its first position at the competition include the unmanned aerial vehicle otherwise called ‘Gulma’. Others are the multi-purpose armament store lifting equipment, security control doors, GSM-base intruder detector and alarm system.
The outstanding performance of the NAF can be traced to recent efforts towards promoting self-reliance. In pursuance of this objective, the NAF has signed Memorandum of Understanding with 23 indigenous universities, polytechnics and research institutions towards building capability locally through research and development.
