The Accountant General of the Federation, Alhaji Ahmed idris has called on Nigerians especially those in the Finance sector of the Economy to key-into the present administrations fight against corruption in Nigeria.
Alhaji Ahmed Idris made the call recently as he reunited with his classmates, class of 84 (Faculty of Admin) graduates from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, at Ceremony in Abuja to honour him as the Accountant General of the Federation.
According to Alhaji Idris, Nigeria is presently faced with a lot of challenges occasioned by wide spread endemic corruption in the system and called Nigerians to rally round and support President Buhari’s agenda for change and anti-corruption. He described President Buhari as a man with a clean heart who has good plans for Nigerians.
Furthermore, Alhaji Idris urged his colleagues and all Nigerians to individually become agents of change , noting that most of the problems bedeviling the country can actually be solved at the micro levels, at the level of the families, places of worship, offices and other individual endeavours as we stand up for what is right.
He pledged that his tenure as the Accountant General of the Federation will be characterized with openness, inclusiveness, accountability and respect for the rules and tenets of public service.
The Accountant General expressed his readiness to accepting ideas and suggestions that will enhance his assignment as the manager of the Nation’s Treasury.
Earlier in a remark, Alhaja Ladi Ibrahim, 1st female President of the Association of National Accountants of Nigerian (ANAN) and a member of the ABU 84 class urged the Accountant General of the Federation to enforce discipline in the management of public finances in the country, asking him to report erring Accountants to the disciplinary committees of the two professional Accounting bodies in the country.
In a welcome address, Alhaji Idris Saidu, on behalf of the 84 set Classmates, commended the Accountant General on his performance so far which has led to reforms in public financial management such the implementation of the Treasury Single Account, despite negative pressures from different stakeholders.
Alhaji Saidu, assured the Accountant General of the continued support and prayers of the body to ensure that he succeeds in his assignment.
