ahmed-idrisThe Accountant General of the Federation, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, has called on the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to partner with the Federal Government in the current fight against corruption, by sensitizing and educating its members to be agents of the change mantra of the present administration especially in the public financial management sector.

Alhaji Idris made this call yesterday in Abuja while receiving in audience the 51st president of the ICAN, Otunba Samuel Olufemi Deru, and his council members who were on a courtesy call to him.

The Accountant General of the Federation noted that though the Nigerian economy is presently facing some challenges in view of the global dwindling oil resources, he stressed that the contribution of every Nigerian, particularly professional bodies like ICAN with depth of experience in financial management as well as membership in both private and public sectors are required in tackling the challenges.

According to Alhaji Idris, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation has introduced a number of reforms such as the Treasury Single Account (TSA), the IPSAS, IPPIS , GIFMIS and others aimed at redirecting and revamping the economy and he therefore solicited the cooperation of ICAN to ensure the successful implementation of the reforms.
He further pledged that his office will continue to provide a level playing ground for all the professional bodies to operate and achieve their various objectives. Speaking further, the AGF noted that a lot of synergy has been existing between his office and the ICAN who provide capacity building for staff of the OAGF.
Earlier in his address, Otunba Samuel Olufemi Deru, President of ICAN congratulated the Accountant General of the Federation on his appointment and applauded the new reforms, such as e-collections schemes which has led to the  introduction of the TSA,  which the AGF has sustained implementation since his assumption of office.
The President of ICAN described the introduction of the TSA as the hallmark of the accounting profession and in line with the philosophy of the present administration.
Otunba Deru pledged the cooperation and support of the Accounting body to the Accountant General of the Federation and his office towards successfully discharging the mandate of the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation.
End.
