Hon Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, has said that one of the gains of the National Housing Programme is to ensure even distribution of the nation’s resources across the states thereby assisting them create jobs for Nigerians. He explained that through the housing scheme, both professionals, skilled and unskilled labour were being engaged.
He said the housing initiative will enhance the dignity of Nigerians as it will promote home ownership and expressed optimism that the effort will further aid economic recovery and bring Nigeria out of recession as more Nigerians continue to be gainfully employed through it.
Fashola spoke during a courtesy visit on the Governor of Ondo State, Chief Oluwarotimi Akeredolu as part of the activities of his inspection tour of facilities in the South-West region of the country. The Minister reiterated that the Federal government has no agenda to compete with the states but that it will rather continue to partner with states to bring the much desired socio- economic developments.
The Minister also thanked the Governor for providing the land for the implementation of the National Housing Programme in the state.
Governor Akeredolu commended the proactive steps taken by the Minister in tackling the perennial challenges in the infrastructure sector of the economy since his assumption of office, noting that his efforts and commitments are glaring for all to see except for those who would want to turn a blind eye to them.
He appealed to the Minister to assist the state recover the huge funds accrued to it from expenditure on interventions on some federal government infrastructure projects in the state.
Updating the Governor and Minister on the Federal Government activities in the Housing sector of the Ministry, the Federal Controller of Housing in the state,(Town Planner Peter Taiwo) said work has commenced at the site of the National Housing Programme, explaining that 9 out of the 12 contractors have mobilized to site and work was on-going.
He also added that the Ministry was currently supervising 4 nos Public Private Partnership (PPP) on-going housing projects sited in different parts of the state which he said will increase the housing stock in the state and the entire nation.
