Tinubu Directs Review of Welfare Package for Information Workers
President Bola Tinubu has directed the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation to explore measures aimed at improving the welfare package of personnel in Nigeria’s information sector.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this on Tuesday during the 2026 Civil Service Week celebration at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
Idris said the President had asked the ministry to examine practical options for enhancing the welfare of information-sector workers, as part of the administration’s broader commitment to strengthening the public service and improving service delivery.
“I want to reveal for the first time that we are working with Mr President. He has asked me to look at what we can do, especially for those within the information sector, so that we can improve their welfare package,” the minister said.
He assured staff that the Tinubu administration remained committed to rewarding dedication, professionalism and excellence among public servants.
The minister spoke at the presentation of Certificates of Recognition to officers and staff members of the ministry who were honoured for their dedication, professionalism and contributions to the growth of the institution.
Idris described civil servants as the engine room of governance, noting that their commitment and efficiency remained central to the implementation of government policies and national development.
He said the ministry occupied a strategic position in disseminating accurate information, promoting national unity and helping citizens understand government programmes and policies.
According to him, information must be deployed as an instrument of national cohesion, development and unity rather than division.

The minister said the ministry would continue to support the Renewed Hope Agenda through effective public communication, public enlightenment and national orientation.
He also highlighted what he described as key achievements of the Tinubu administration, including economic reforms, improved revenue performance by states, stronger foreign reserves, infrastructure development and expanded access to higher education through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.
Idris further said security efforts involving Nigerian security agencies and international partners were gradually yielding results in efforts to improve public safety across the country.
He urged officers of the ministry to uphold professionalism, integrity and selfless service, stressing that the civil service remained indispensable to the country’s progress.
“No nation can develop and reach its desired destination without dedicated civil servants. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu cannot do it alone. All of us must contribute our quota towards building the Nigeria of our dreams,” he said.
The minister also commended the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr Binyerem Ukaire, for her leadership and commitment to staff welfare and institutional efficiency.
Earlier, Ukaire described civil servants as the often-unseen drivers of governance whose work sustains government operations and ensures service delivery to citizens.
She said the Civil Service Week celebration was designed to recognise the contributions of public servants working behind the scenes to advance national development.
The permanent secretary urged staff to remain guided by the core values of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan, including efficiency, productivity, integrity and citizen-centred service delivery.
The event was attended by directors, heads of departments, senior management staff and other employees of the ministry.
