Nigerian Army Provides Security to Humanitarian Agencies in North-East
The Nigerian Army has promised to collaborate with International Humanitarian Donors in the North East in general and Northern Borno State in particular.
The Acting Commander, Sector 3 Operation LAFIYA DOLE Brigadier General Uwem Bassey, made the pledge during a courtesy visit by a delegation from United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Nigeria, led by the Irish Ambassador to Nigeria His Excellency, Sean Hoy.
The Commander assured all international donors and humanitarian agencies of Nigerian Army’s readiness to maintain highest professional standard in the provision of security and also collaborate with them. He also reiterated the efforts of the Nigerian Army in ensuring the safe return of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes to enable them engage in farming and other economic activities.
Earlier in his remark, the Irish Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Sean Hoy stated that, he is on a mission to have an update of the security situation and humanitarian assessment in Monguno and Baga towns.
He also applauded the effort of the Nigerian Army in providing security to Non Governmental Organisations, which enable them render humanitarian assistance to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Ambassador Sean Hoy promised to cooperate with the Nigerian Army in ending insurgency in the North East.
Present during the visit were some Principal Staff Officers of Sector 3.
