FG Commissions Water Dam in Mangu

In line with the established Water Resources Roadmap which provides for the completion of all on-going and abandoned water resources projects across the country and to improve the quality of lives of Nigerians, the Hon. Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu FNSE on Monday 17th December, 2018 commissioned and handed over Mangu Regional Water Supply Scheme in Mangu LGA of Plateau State.

The project is a conventional Water Treatment Plant that has the capacity to produce 10 Million Litres per day (10MLD) of drinkable water that can serve a population of over 150, 000 people. It is meant to serve the people of Mangu, Mangu-Halle, Gindiri, Kasuwan Ali, Punshit, Langai, Panyam, Kerang, Kadunusg, Mangun and Chanso towns of Plateau State.

The Minister said “the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari places a lot of emphasis on activities that have direct improvement on the quality of life of Nigerians.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Engr. Adamu said “this gathering today is to witness the completion of yet another infrastructure on water supply for the improvement of the living standard and dignity of the people of Plateau State “.

The Minister noted that the Federal Government’s direct involvement in the provision of water supply facilities is an intervention that is meant to accelerate access to potable water in the country towards meeting National and International set targets.

In his response, the Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Simon Lalong expressed his appreciation to the Federal Government for the project and said “as a Government, our efforts in this regard are aimed at ensuring that potable water is made available in every nook and cranny of the State”.

The Governor thereafter declared State of Emergency on Water Supply and Sanitation in the State, walking in the footsteps of President Muhammadu Buhari who had in November 8, 2018 declared a State of in the WASH Sector, and launched the National Wash Action Plan for the Revitalisation of the Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Sector.

The Plateau State Commissioner of Water Resources and Energy, Engr. David Wuyep thanked the Federal Government for commissioning and handing over of the Water Supply Project to the State and assured that it will be protected, maintained and put into effective use for the benefit of Nigerians.

Earlier, the Honourable Minister inspected the project site of the treatment plant located in Gindiri Community and expressed his happiness with the level and quality of work carried out by the Contractor.

The Minister also inspected the Barkin Ladi Dam also in Plateau State to appraise the progress of work.
