Constituency Projects Cost Nigeria Billions of Naira Annually – ICPC Chairman
Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Professor Bolaji Owasanoye, has said that looking at the country’s budget profile, a hundred billion naira was devoted to constituency projects annually, and that these projects, if fully implemented, would have direct impact on the ordinary people.
Professor Owasanoye, said this during the recent inauguration of the Constituency Project Tracking Group (CPTG) steering committee at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja.
The steering committee members are drawn from ICPC, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Media and other stakeholders such as the National Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS).
Speaking during the meeting, Professor Owasanoye revealed that CPTG would also look at the components of other kinds of projects that are not constituency projects such as the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).
The ICPC Chairman further said that CPTG would look into federal constituency projects that had been funded from years 2015 to 2018, while indicating that they would be “pragmatic” in the selection of projects which would span the six-geopolitical zones of the country.
