Army General to Buhari: Probe Disappearance of Recovered $2.1 bn Malabu Fund in Presidency

President Muhammadu Buhari has been called upon to constitute a high powered probe panel into the disappearance of whopping sum of $2.1bn allegedly recovered in an Abuja residence said to belong to a former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke.

The huge sum was reportedly recovered in block 6, flat 1, NNPC Housing Estate, Area 11, Abuja and was traced to the former Chief Law Officer of the Federation as part proceeds from the Malabu Oil Deal.

An anti-corruption crusader, General Adamu Yusuf (rtd), who made the call at a world Press conference on the state of the nation as it relates to the ongoing war against corruption by the presidency disclosed that the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari and a former Director General of the State Security Service, Lawal Daura are in full picture of the recovered loot.

General Yusuf at the conference told newsmen that information of the loot starched in the house used by Adoke as a private office was leaked by a lady whistle blower.

In his words, “I’m here to make a press statement on what transpired on October 30, 2015.

“I got an information that a lump sum of foreign currency and gold bars were housed at block 6, flat 1, Area 11 at NNPC quarters, Abuja.

“So, I met the Chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari and revealed to him what I was told. And Kyari promptly alerted the DSS for an operation on the house.

“On Friday October 30, 2015, the operation was carried out by DSS operatives after a 3-day surveillance around the house.

“We recovered Gold Bars and the lump sum of $2.1bn in the said house. In fact, the operation was successful.

General Yusuf added that sadly the recovered loot was not deposited in the Federal treasury, explained that findings revealed that the said loot was neither with the Central bank of Nigeria, CBN nor with the DSS that carried out the operation that led to the recovery of the money and gold.

Yusuf said that all efforts by him and other whistle blowers to locate the whereabouts of the money have been unsuccessful.

In a petition dated September 4, 2018, to the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the federation, Abubakar Malami, obtained by our correspondent, the general demanded a full scale probe into the disappearance of the said loot.

Besides, the Army General said he had petitioned the Presidential Investigation Panel for the recovery of public property and that the panel headed by Okoi Obla had carried out a successful investigation into the matter.

Yusuf also called on Buhari not to allow the matter to be swept under the carpet, saying the huge amount can fund some developmental projects that can make life more meaningful to Nigerians.

He also demanded that 20 percent of the recovered loot be paid to the whistleblowers in line with the Federal government policy on whistleblowing.

Answering a question, the retired general said text messages and conversations he had with Kyari on the issue, especially on the whereabouts of the loot were all wiped off after he received a particular call from him.

He therefore pleaded with the president to quickly set a probe panel into the matter in view of the huge sums in foreign currency involved, adding that both Abba Kyari and Lawal Daura would be of tremendous help to President Buhari in the course of investigation.
