Environment Ministry, UN Partner on Climate Change

The Minister of Environment, Dr. Mohammad Mamoud Abubakar has expressed his commitment to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure environmental protection and facilitate a quality environment conducive for good health and wellbeing of Nigerians.

The Minister stated this when he received in audience, the former Minister of Environment and current Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mrs Amina Mohammed

According to him “We are ready to partner with all relevant Development Agencies to deliver on the mandate of the Ministry and build on the achievements recorded by the previous Ministers.”

Speaking further, the Minister revealed that the meeting with the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations was aimed at exploring areas of possible collaboration between the Ministry and the United Nations as well as to seek wise counsel from the former Minister in the area of environmental management.

“It is a delight to welcome the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations to the Ministry, we are so proud of her achievements as a Minister in this Ministry and beyond. Together, we are looking forward to a partnership that will accelerate development in the environmental sector”, Mamoud stated.

Earlier in her remarks, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and former Minister of Environment, Mrs Amina Mohammed expressed confidence in the ability of the Minister to deliver on the task ahead saying, “You have an excellent leader with a track record. I have no doubt in his ability to deliver on the next level promises of President Muhammadu Buhari, particularly in the Environment sector.”

“There is a lot to be done in combatting climate change and its effects on the environment, and the United Nations is ready to support the Nigerian government in achieving its Next Level agenda targets in the environment sector.” She affirmed.
