BUK to Deploy ICT for Academic activities- New VC, Prof Abbas

The Vice Chancellor, Bayero University, Kano, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas has vowed to deploy Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in all strategic areas of academic activities and operations in the institution.

The Vice Chancellor who disclosed this in an interview with INFOMEDIA, a campus news portal, noted that the University is currently logjamed regarding Information and Communication Technology and has not been able to access grant from Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) as one of the requisites.

“One of the problem we are facing in Bayero University, Kano today is lack of robust Information and Communication Technology (ICT) connectivity and availability.

“And is one of the reasons I found out when I came in that blocked our chance as a requirement to access a fund from Tertiary Education Trust Fund, because each University must develop and implement Information and Communication Technology Policy to access the fund.”

He added that “the first thing I will do although the previous administration constituted a committee that will initiate the Information and Communication Technology Policy for the university but
I will expand the commitee to go beyond what it was mandated to do so that we will have a robust internet connectivity and availability in our campuses.

“We have younger universities that are less than 10 years old and are better-off in terms of internet connectivity than our institution but through strong commitment we will deploy ICT infrastructure to make wireless and internet connectivity across our campuses available in order to achieve this objective,” he concluded.
