NITDA Bags WCO International Merit Award

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), has been conferred with another certificate of merit award by the World Customs Organization (WCO) for its contribution to the successful implementation of the e-Customs Project.

According to information obtained by TechDigest from the verified Twitter handle of NITDA, the agency was conferred with certificate of merit award for rendering technical assistance in the realization of the e-custom project, monitoring & evaluation, capacity building training of Customs officer.
The WCO said: “A Certificate of Merit has been conferred on NITDA by World Customs Organization for rendering Technical Assistance in the realization of the e-Customs Project, Monitoring & Evaluation of @CustomsNG ICT & Capacity Building of Customs officers at the 2022 International Customs Day Awards”.
The WCO, with headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, is an intergovernmental organization that promotes certainty, probability and security of the international movement of goods and people accompanying goods by establishing clear and precise standards such as the WCO SAFE Framework of Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade.
It also works in customs-related matters including the development of international conventions, instruments, and tools on topics such as commodity classification, valuation, rules of origin, collection of customs revenue, supply chain security, international trade facilitation.
Others are customs enforcement activities, combating counterfeiting in support of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), illegal drug enforcement, combating counterfeiting of medicinal drugs, illegal weapons trading, integrity promotion, and delivering sustainable capacity building to assist with customs reforms and modernization.
