PRNigeria Advocates Media Supports to End Insecurity

By Adamu Farida Isa

The Publisher of PRNigeria, Economic Confidential and other titles, Alhaji Yushau Shuaib, has called on journalists to rally round the country’s troops in the battle against terrorists, bandits and other criminal non-state actors.

Citing recent security beaches in Abuja and how it was reported in the media, Shuaib urged the journalists to deemphasise contents that tend to discourage the Nigerian armed forces and celebrate criminals, and focus on acknowledging the sacrifices being made by the country’s gallant troops.

Shuaib was speaking in Abuja on Thursday when a staff writer with the organisation, Mukhtar Ya’u Madobi, presented his observations and recommendations from his recent investigative expedition to banditry -ravaged areas of Chonoko in Kebbi state and Kagara in Niger state.

“Stories that always exaggerate how incapacitated our army is and how they suffer casualties tend to affect their frame of mind and weaken their morale.

“Lots of times, our officers and men are at battle zones and firing lines, their efforts to shield us too should be recognised.

“Let us try to write uplifting stories that will boost their morale and give confidence to the public,” he said.

The investigative reporter, who briefed a cross section of journalists, explained the desperate situation of victims of banditry in the places he visited while the spokesman of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Manzo Ezekiel, clarified what the agency is doing to alleviate the plight of the victims.

The investigative series being carried out by PRNigeria is in partnership with the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism and the MacArthur Foundation.
