Fact Check: Will FIFA keep Pele’s Feet in the Museum?

Claim : There is a claim circulating on social media that FIFA would keep Pele’s feet in the Museum.

Full text: The post reads, “BREAKING: FIFA Will  Keep Pele’s  Feet in the Museum. Pele’s Family has given the permission.”

FIFA is the international governing body of association football founded since 1904.

About Pele: Edson Arantes do Nascimento, known mononymously by his nickname Pelé, was a Brazilian professional footballer who played as a forward. Regarded as one of the greatest players of all time and labelled “the greatest” by FIFA, he was among the most successful and popular sports figures of the 20th century.

They called him ‘The King’, and his face is one of the most recognisable in world football. He was once named by FIFA as the greatest player of the 20th century. The legendary Brazilian passed away on 29 December 2022.

Pele’s star was already in the ascendancy at the age of just 17, when he celebrated his first FIFA World Cup title with Brazil in Sweden on 29 June 1958. He still holds the record as the youngest world champion of all time.

Verification: After a keyword search of the terms turned up no related result from any credible news platform. Similarly, there was no such announcement on the FIFA official website. Infact, a page with an outpouring of tributes for the legendary footballer on the  website had no such announcement.

Further verification on FIFA’s official social media handles especially Twitter and Instagram contained no such information.

However, some YouTube channels and Twitter handle have been confirmed to be speculating and spreading the rumors.

Conclusion: There was no official announcement by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) that Pele’s feet will be kept in the Museum with the consent of his family.

PRNigeria therefore concludes that the cliam is FALSE.
